Smarter people take longer to develop and mature.

For men this means hitting their peak 10 to 15 years later than average peers. Late starts to families and later/higher income peaks. Still it can be frustrating to feel you are getting left behind.

For women late maturity can be devastating if their intellectual/emotional development peaks near to when they hit the wall. Suddenly they realize that they want children, but they are past their prime and find it difficult to attract a man who is smarter than them.
