GDP Go Up?
For several generations we have been measuring the health of nations by the financial progress of their economies. Since 1934 we have been using the term GDP, or Gross Domestic Product to measure it.
What you measure, you focus on. What you don’t measure gets forgotten.
ChatGPT estimates that 200,000 people work directly on research and reporting about the economy in the USA. It’s a vast industry that attracts significant investment.
Western governments, big businesses, mass media, and think tanks measure and obsess over every little financial detail of the economy and employment numbers as a distraction from much more important issues like the collapse of interpersonal trust and homogenous communities due to mass immigration, the collapse of white birth rates, the obesity crisis, and the complete failure of public education to produce competent adults.
It’s not that money or material goods don’t matter. Having more money is a good thing. After hundreds of thousands of years of bare survival and subsistence living, humans finally created a regular and repeatable surplus. Food, shelter, and clothing became relatively cheap. Poverty is almost eliminated globally. Our ancestors would be amazed; we have done the impossible. And yet we are still not happy or healthy.
Because we traded EVERYTHING to get it.
We continue to trade quality of life, health, mental well-being, community, relationships, children, security, beauty, culture, and spirituality for more GDP, and this has proven to be a terrible investment. The situation has become so dire that entire Western nations are in danger of collapsing.
We are exhausted, spent, done.
To fix this mess we need a full accounting of economic, social, and genetic production, not just GDP. How can we make good long-term decisions with only a short-term and incomplete understanding of the factors we are working with?
For instance, producing high-IQ, high-agency, competent adults is the most important and core “industry” of any nation, yet GDP does not even indirectly measure it.
Fundamentally, the future of every nation is in its DNA, its genetics, and the cultivation of its best and brightest to their highest potential, not just as economic units but as wives, husbands, mothers, and fathers.
And yet, pursuing short-term GDP growth is at odds with long-term investments into family and children. To make GDP GO UP we have consumed our future and our children’s future.
Gross Genitic Product >>>>> Gross Domestic Product.
We need to spend much more time and resources measuring and honestly discussing the more important things, or there will not be any more GDP to go up because there will not be any more us to make it happen.
We are at the end of the era of measuring everything in financial terms; it is time to burn the altars to Mammon and once again seek true wealth within ourselves, our families, our children, our communities, our people, and our God.
May the future find you wealthy and prosperous in all the ways that matter.
