Children need certainty, not confusion
Children need certainty, not confusion.
Are you providing your children with a solid foundation on which to grow?
What framework are you using to provide that foundation?
Below is the framework that I use for my children and clients. Please feel free to use it with your children.
How to use this framework: Answer the questions as specifically and concisely as possible. Then teach it to your children.
Purpose What is our reason for living? Disambiguate your answers until they are reduced to actions.
Identity Who is their father? (no generic name, rank, and serial number; who is he as a man?) Who is their mother? (same as above) What is their family identity? What is their tribal identity? What is their religious identity? Who are they? (They are the person who accomplishes their purpose, so draw the connection in the description.)
Mind Map How much of the world do they understand? In what ways and from whom are they learning? What should they know but don’t? What do they need to know before adulthood?
Moral Compass What objective process can they use to tell true from false and right from wrong? (Following rules is not a substitute for thinking. They need to know how to determine things when the situation is new and they lack references to make a decision.) In cases of conflict, whose advice do they trust more? How do they calibrate their moral compass when it goes off true north?
Answer these questions, and you are well on your way to creating stability for your children.
