Why shouldn’t you get a divorce?
Why shouldn’t you get a divorce?
If you cannot answer that question with clear, compelling reasons, both emotional and practical, your marriage is on shaky ground.
The best way to divorce-proof your marriage is to stack incentives that make staying together the obvious, beneficial choice for both of you.
Make it costly, socially, financially, relationally, to separate.
Make it rewarding, emotionally, sexually, spiritually, to stay.
Create joint responsibilities, shared goals, and deep interdependence.
One incentive is not enough. You need layers, so that divorce feels not just painful, but unthinkable.
When divorce costs too much and marriage gives you more than it takes, you work things out.
