When I was a kid my dad would say “lets go for a walk” and we would be gone marching on the forest trails for 10 hours with no food or water.

Getting to our camping spot required 10 hours driving, 4 hours walking and 16 hours canoeing with 4 portages. Food was bacon and bread.

Going to work with my dad meant cleaning bricks all day with a pick so that we could reuse them on a heritage home he was renovating. Food was maybe.

That kind of childhood makes you tough.
