We took away most of the incentives for women to have children, and then gave them a long list of incentives not to have children, not to marry, not to build lasting relationships.

And now we act surprised that the birth rate is plummeting.

It all comes down to incentives.

Most people follow the incentives they are given. Very few have the agency or long-term willpower to choose what is best for them when the short-term rewards push in the opposite direction.
