The return of patriarchy will require rule by fathers.

A patriarchy is when the mature, high-agency men in society (20% of men) hold other men, women, and children accountable for their actions while also promising not to abandon them.

Not abandoning them does not mean investing in them; it means continuing to be open to those you lead changing and becoming worth investing in.

Patriarchies require homogeneity and smaller polities that foster a familiar and loving atmosphere. We are unlikely to have the required patience with people who are significantly different from us.

If you want to become a patriarch or a leader, ask yourself these questions:

• Who do you wish to lead?
• In what ways will you lead them?
• Where will you draw the boundary line between not abandoning them and enabling bad behavior?

When you can answer these questions, you can father whole nations.

When you find a man that can answer these questions you have discovered a great leader who can found a nation or lead it out of decay.
