🗣️📣 The adult-child problem is killing us
️📣 The adult-child problem is killing us.
Children don’t get a say in how we run the commons.
Why?
Because they lack agency to participate in the big, collective decisions.
Then why do we let adults with child-like levels of agency participate in government or vote?
Because of the lie of equality.
We lie and manipulate ourselves into believing that every adult is worthy of a voice in how the world is run, when we know that’s not true.
Every discussion of what to do about spiraling crime rates, government overspending, failing schools, a shortage of skilled labor, etc. devolves into a verbal dance around the real issue: adult children.
Federations of high-age men and their families created the West.
Occasionally, we made the mistake of expanding the federation to include those who didn’t earn a place in it—the unworthy, the immature, and the childlike.
Every time we did this, it led to collapse and then invasion by higher-agency federations. Sometimes we regrouped and pushed the invaders out; other times we adopted them and their ways.
Today we stand at another crossroads. Will we admit that the franchise, voting, and even attention are not rights but rather the property of federations of the high-agency men who hold society together?
Or will we keep pretending until we cease to exist?
