Part of the reason I have always found it easy to interact with women and lead them is because I took on responsibility from a young age. I was consistently the most responsible child in the group, so adults put me in charge, often even over older kids. I got used to managing mixed groups of boys and girls, giving clear instructions, and being held accountable for the outcome.

In my early teens, I was given real responsibility in church, which sometimes meant leading groups of younger and older women on various projects. That experience builds competence which leads to confidence. And confidence grows when you are forced to understand and guide the people you lead.

Most young men today are not given this kind of opportunity. They have never been led by a good man, never witnessed strong masculine leadership, and never been given the burden of command themselves. So they reach adulthood with no understanding of something essential to mature masculinity: how to lead.
