One of the kids in my son’s class last year—a very beautiful, socially skilled girl, one of the most popular in the class—invited my son to her birthday party.

I went with him and spent time with the other parents. Since it’s an international school, most of them were expats. The birthday girl’s father was a short, thin, nerdy-looking guy, but he had this aura of power—very wealthy, very dominant, clearly the leader in the social group. His wife, a super-hot Brazilian woman, was half a foot taller than him, and she adored him. You could see it in the way she looked at him and took care of him, bringing him drinks and food without hesitation.

Almost every other couple in their family was the same—hot happy wives and successful nerdy husbands with 3 or 4 beautiful and smart children.
