My wife puts extra attention into cultivating relationships with the people who serve us, whether that’s restaurant staff, clerks at local government offices, hospital workers, clinic staff, or dentists. She’s always friendly and engaging. She learns their names, asks about their kids, and remembers small details so she can greet them personally the next time we see them.

She does this everywhere we go.

When I first met her, I went to visit her in her hometown, which has about 60,000 people. Everyone seemed to know who she was. As we walked down the street, we were constantly being stopped by people asking who I was. Some even gave me light-hearted threats, telling me I’d better treat her well, because the whole town loved her.
