My wife is the kind of woman that other women turn to when they need advice. Today, another friend of hers was calling, a younger woman, distraught over something, and my wife set up a time to meet and comfort her.

After the call she puts down the phone, looks at me, and says, “Noah, we are just built differently; something in our DNA. Hard times just roll off our backs like nothing, and so we have the job of helping others who can’t handle life like we can.”

This is the kind of noblesse oblige that you inherit if you have the ability to handle the responsibility of helping others. It’s not fun; it’s a huge responsibility, but it’s our duty to be Fathering and Mothering the world.
