My son asked “Is it ever ok to hurt someone?”
Me “Yes and sometimes it’s the right & only thing to do.”
His little mind was racing, calculating, concluding moral imperatives out of that information.
“If anyone ever hurt my brothers I would kill them & not feel bad about it.”
The morality of righteous violence is intuitive to young boys.
Without manipulation against their healthy defensive impulses they will grow up to be defenders of what is good, true and beautiful.
Never shame a boy for his fighting instincts, its what keeps him and us free.
