Many people have been so hurt in the past that they shut off their emotions, this is as unhealthy as treating a physical injury by choosing to never move that body part again. It doesn’t promote healing but rather a slow decay into chronic ill health.
Most people have never been taught how to manage their emotions in a healthy way. Instead, they have had their feelings suppressed and minimized by parents or others who were supposed to love and nurture them. Eventually they internalize this self tyranny.
