In 2002 I was visiting my fiancee (now wife) and overstayed my visa by 10 days. At the Lisbon airport, as I was leaving, they threatened to deport me and ban me from re-entering Europe for 10 years.
No process, no judge. They see my passport stamp is expired and stick me on a flight. Fast, streamlined, simple.
Fortunately, they were kind as they saw I was already going back to Canada with my fiancee to marry her, so they let me off with a warning.
Deportations can be quick and easy. There is no need to have a judge involved. If you don’t have permission to be in the country they put you on a plane home and ban you from re-entering. Simple.
