"I don't believe in hypnosis

“I don’t believe in hypnosis.”

“That’s ok, it will still work on you and for you.”

A few years ago @JoshuaLisec, the world’s greatest ghost writer and a trained hypnotist convinced me (hypnotized me?) into learning more about something that I was already doing unconsciously.

I would try to resist. But not too hard.

As a child I had been taught a lot of what I now know as hypnotism but at the time was convinced was just master level persuasion. Is there a difference?

From as young as 2 years old I was expected to persuade people to change their core beliefs and become christians.

I was also expected to learn how to “minister to the sick” which included those sick at heart, or anxious, depressed and lonely. Before I hit puberty I was already accomplished at teaching other people emotional regulation and how to cope maturely with the trials and tribulations that are a normal part of life.

The most effective techniques for helping people quickly and effortlessly ended up overlapping exactly with what hypnotists do. That shocked me as I had been lead to believe (hypnotized to believe?) that hypnosis was somehow anti-christian.

Superstitious people think hypnosis is magic. People who understand it’s just master level persuasion and teaching.

At first it was strange for me to look back on Jesus teaching through storytelling and allegory and realize that it’s also an effective hypnosis technique.

My other problem is that I was teaching people agency, that is the feeling of control and the ability to control your thoughts, emotions and reactions to your environment. I was worried that hypnotism would give me too much control or power over others instead of teaching them to control themselves.

During a consultation @BasedHypnotist helped me appreciate that hypnotism was just a tool and it was up to me how I used it. Besides, I WAS using it already, but without fully understanding the tool I was not using it in the best way.

My client and now friend @JohnHaskinsJr was using hypnosis and getting fantastic results quickly in some areas that I was struggling. I wanted that too. (See you can learn something from younger people.)

Besides, the bad guys are already using it to infect every “official” message with poison and propaganda. The least I can do is use it to fight back.

Everyone of us has been hypnotized at one point or another without even knowing it. It happened during a movie, while you had a deep conversation, while listening to a song, while running or during a long speech. You entered into a deep state of relaxation and rapid learning. You were “in the zone”.

Have you ever “zoned out” while doing something monotonous? Congratulations, you hypnotized yourself into a trance.

See how easy it is? We were made to do this.

Now, having added a lot of deeper hypnosis skills to my repertoire I’ve noticed some clear results:

  • My writing improved, it’s more effective at getting people to act and not just transmit information.
  • My coaching is even more effective, faster and easier.
  • Communication with my wife and children improved, I can now speak directly to their hearts and minds in ways I only occasionally could before.
  • I am more resistant to harmful manipulation and more affected by friendly persuasion than before.

By now you are curious about how hypnosis works in real life. That’s too much information for one X post. Yes it’s simple in a way, but also too complex and general. You would have to experience it for yourself to understand.

But even if you don’t believe in hypnotism, it still works. Tell the hypnotist that you can’t be hypnotized and then try to fight it the whole time. It’s more fun when you don’t notice it working.

Or you can cooperate and feel better now!
