Fear plagues the modern dating scene.

Women fear abandonment. Not just men leaving, but abandoning them alone during the day with small children and no familial support network.

Men fear betrayal. Not just cheating and divorce, but even turning against them emotionally while they are still together.

Their fears are not without merit.

Young people are more neurotic, less equipped for marriage, and receive less familial and institutional support than ever before. Many young people use a mix of prescription and street drugs to get by in normal life and feel that they cannot handle the added responsibility of marriage and children.

This doesn’t mean that we should reject marriage; it means we must take into account the changes in the dating and marriage markets and act accordingly.

• Increase your social and relationship competency.
• Learn what both you and the opposite sex need to stay invested and dedicated to a successful marriage.
• Invest in building your own local and online support networks, or join an existing one.
• Develop better life-management mechanisms so that you can stop using drugs.
• Learn how to attract the right kind of person for marriage and repel the wrong ones.
• Keep a diary of your struggles and life lessons learned so that your children don’t have to start from scratch.
