Despite being born in Ontario, Canada I don’t think like most Ontarians.

For dozens of generations, my family on both sides were rugged frontier settlers, outdoorsmen, lumberjacks, etc. In that way, I’m more American than many current Americans.

That rough and free life shapes your genes and family culture. For example, I feel naked when unarmed. I prefer the wilderness over the city, what I hunt or gather over what I pay for; I’m unmotivated by money, highly motivated by adventure and challenge, etc.

Even my kids get more excited when we forage for food in the woods than when I buy them something from the store. They ask to “hunt” the ducks at the park or some rabbits we see in the bushes. My oldest tells me he wants to spear a javli. They are wild at heart, like me.
