All persons have some level of agency, it’s a spectrum from a baby who has almost no agency on up to adults with varying levels of agency.

When we exercise our agency by making choices and taking actions we all do so in similar but different ways.

The result is unequal outcomes.

These different outcomes give us crucial feed back that we need to make complex decisions.

Inequality is a feature of agency not a flaw.

The only way to create equality would be to eliminate our agency. To make us into identical automatons who all make the same decisions.

Many who promote the idea of “equality” do so believing it’s a good thing. They have not yet thought the idea all the way through.

Ask them “what do you want to achieve by promoting equality”. They usually talk about reducing suffering, poverty or something like that.

It is trivially easy to show them that what they want to accomplish can only be done by promoting agency and that equality is the enemy of human development.

(This assumes that they are honest and sincere rather than mercenary ideologues.)
