1)Do not speak about anything you dont understand

You can not speak with authority on subjects you are not highly knowledgeable in

Too many people follow a few twitter accounts about a subject for 3 months and then start coaching on that subject

Stop it, you are hurting people

Before you can teach publicly with authority you need to put the ideas you have into practice

Coach 10+ people to success in the subject that you want to be an expert in, for free

Learn along the way

Be honest with them and let them know you are learning as you go

  1. Dont hedge your statements

When you speak to a large audience you must generalise

There is no room for nuance with most learners

Save the minor details and exceptions for the advanced students who can appreciate them

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Jesus spoke boldly in simple absolutes using common language

This made his teachings clear and accessible to the masses

  1. Speak truth at a level that your audience can grasp

Truth has levels, breadth and depth

You must gage your audience and avoid info dumping on them

Sharing truths with unprepared masses is cruel and creates popular resistance to your message

Save the deep things for later

When Jesus healed a blind man he did so in steps, slowly revealing sight to the man born blind

This was an act of love, allowing the man to gain clarity a little bit at a time, guiding him to understand what he was seeing

Do the same when you are teaching and speaking

  1. Speak on your own authority

“He taught as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.”

The religious leaders of Jesus day were cowards, they would not speak unless quoting some long dead scholar or official authority

Thus they never took responsibility for their words

“You have heard that it was said…But I say to you…”

Jesus did quote extensively from the Hebrew texts of the bible, especially when using them to prove his authority and role as the messiah

Yet, he never used scripture as a shield to escape responsibility for his words

Stop using studies, official guidelines, the “science”, news reports, quotes, etc. to avoid taking personal responsibility for what you say and teach

You own your words and the advice you give

Act like it!

  1. Stop sharing the full extent of your wisdom and knowlege with everyone

If what you have is valuable enough people will put effort into seeking it out

Such people are worthy of what you can teach them

Dont waste time on lazy learners and trolls

“Do not give to dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”

Jesus had decrement

His deeper teachings were keep for his close followers and disciples

Not everyone is worthy

If you want to learn the deeper things about life from someone else, you will need to demonstrate that you are serious about it

Get a coach or mentor and show them that you are willing to do the work to learn from them

Be wise in how you teach and learn

  1. Jesus never used manipulation or lies

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Jesus was a master persuader, teaching people how to be happy, spiritually fulfilled, engaged in healthy relationships and care for each other

He did so truthfully and lived his words until death

If you can not use truth to persuade others towards your teachings then either:

  1. Your ideas are wrong
  2. You are bad a persuasion
  3. You are dealing with people who do not want truth

All are fixable:

  1. Get better ideas
  2. Get better at persuasion
  3. Deal with better people

Resorting to manipulation and tricks might be tempting, but it undermines your teachings and destroys your relationship with your listeners

Their are terrible consequences for building a reputation and teaching others based on lies and manipulation

Remember the father of lies
