When you’re old, what are you going to talk about?

When you’re sitting in the nursing home, a third of your life is spent in old age, that is a long time, what will you have to say?

Your career won’t matter. It’s over. The places you went, the people you saw, the things you did, most of it won’t matter. For 90 percent of people, none of it will be worth talking about. It’ll be too minor, too boring, too forgettable.

For most of you, the only thing in your life that might carry any real meaning will be whether or not you had children. Because the truth is, 90% of people are not interesting enough, or driven enough, to do anything more meaningful than raise a family.

So again I ask: When you’re old, what are you going to talk about?
