The hero’s journey is a cycle, it keeps reiterating as the hero fights bigger and more important battles.

There are no straight lines in mythology, everything is a cycle. The end of the journey (like the end of the world) is the beginning of a new one.

The hero does die, mid way through the journey. He is then reborn as the enlightened hero.

But he is alive at the end, after saving the feminine, so that they can live on together and makes generations.
