Skin in the Game

The current system of voting does not accurately represent peoples stake in the future of the nation or their investment in it, which creates unhealthy incentives and makes democracy unsustainable as it currently is.

Historically, in many cultures having children was considered a civic duty like paying taxes or serving in the military. Citizens could be penalized for being unmarried or childless.

Exceptions would be made for men who were professional, life long soldiers and for those who joined religious orders.

A modern solution would be to offer large tax rebates to net taxpayers who have above replacement levels of children.

To align voters interests with the long term health of the nation there needs to be changes to who is able to vote and how often.

Voters get one vote for each category they fulfil.

  • Married.
  • Have replacement levels of children with the person they are marred to.
  • Net lifetime tax payer (as a family unit).
  • Active part of the militia (armed, trained, fit).
  • Own land or business worth more than $200,000.

Subtract one vote for each category they fulfil.

  • Government worker.
  • Felon.

No vote for immigrants until the third generation born in the nation to ensure assimilation.

Under this system some people may not have earned the right to vote. That is a feature not a flaw. It keeps the incompetent and foolish from voting.

Immigrants would not be permitted to run for office or participate in the governments bureaucracy until the third generation born in the nation to ensure loyalty.

No dual citizens would be able to vote or hold office.

These measures would greatly increase the stability and security of any nation that implemented them.
