Most mature men are not strongly motivated to serve themselves and their pleasures.

Instead, they are motivated to seek honor, pay their debts, do their duty, and build legacies.

We owe a debt of blood to our ancestors, without whom we would not exist, and we pay that debt by raising new generations into mature adulthood, building on our family legacy (or creating a new one).

This drive to pay our debts gives us strong motivation to do good.

Why be healthy? To have healthy children and be around to raise them right. Why be rich? To afford more children and better care for them. Why marry? To provide stability for children. Why maintain the commons? To secure the future of our children. Why do anything, take any risk, or be bold at all? We do it to pay back a debt to our ancestors by doing for our children what was done for us, only better.
