It seems that many people don’t understand how health management or aging work.

Why does one breed of dog live longer than another breed? Genetics. Why does one small village where everyone is related have lots of centarians? Genetics. Why can some people smoke, drink, and eat whatever they want to look good as they age, while another does everything right but dies at 55 from cancer? Genetics.

Just because 70% of staying youthful-looking as you age is genetic doesn’t mean that the other 30% don’t matter.

If you were sailing in a boat with only 70% of its hull intact, you would sink. If only 95% were intact, you would sink. Even a tiny hole would eventually sink the boat unless you were pumping it out.

Yes, people with top 0.01% genetics but a bad lifestyle will still look decent into old age, but that means nothing for the rest of us. Most people have average genes and require a lot of focus on the other 30% just to make it to old age, let alone looking good when they get there.

We also need to work with our genetics. The diet, stress management, and exercise routine that’s best for us are largely genetically determined. For some reason, this is common sense when talking about breeds of dogs but inconceivable when talking about humans.
