Allowing someone to experience the unabated, natural consequences of their actions is the best way to persuade them to change. They NEED to feel some pain; it’s GOOD for them.
Consequences allow people to learn key information (feedback) and control their behavior (OODA loop). Without consequences, we are flying blind.
This works at a societal level and at an interpersonal level. Don’t become an enabler by shielding someone from the consequences of their actions. Let them feel the pain; it won’t kill them, and it might even save them from doing something that would be fatal.
Right now, NYC is finally facing the consequences of their decisions. It’s a good time for Texas to allow that to be as intense as possible.
NYC’s soft-on-crime policies made it a hell hole in the late 80’s and early 90’s. They learned and voted for people who could fix it.
Recognise that the majority of the population in NYC consists of irrational and immature people who are estranged from reality by over-urbanization. They need to be reminded regularly.
