Newborn advice from an experienced father:

Buy nothing mechanical, everything simple. Buy a simple crib with a latex mattress. Get a soft “Moses bed” insert. Get a “ground mat” for laying them on. Bed toppers work great for this. Never use a baby bouncer/chair.

Get a comfortable rocking chair with padded arms and several small pillows. Long thin pillows seem most useful.

Cover your rocking chair with a thin blanket to protect it from vomit.

A good change station is vital. Make sure its easy to clean.

We bought everything at Ikea.
