Last night, I tried lighting up my new Petromax 500 HK lantern for the first time. Took it outside with my son, pumped it up, followed all the steps… except I forgot to position the fuel opening properly.

I ended up flooding the vaporizer—so when I lit it, the top burst into a fireball. Would’ve been funny if it wasn’t slightly terrifying (and not great for the lamp). Thankfully, it’s solid brass and shrugged it off without any real damage.

We let it cool down, and we’ll give it another shot tonight. My kid thought the fireball was hilarious—best part of his day.
